John Lennon's Birthday

Saturday is John Lennon's birthday for 70 years old, if he still alive. This year, which is also the 40th anniversary of John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band (his first official solo record) and the 30th anniversary of Lennon's murder, it's John's turn.

The Cleveland party Friday, part of an all-Lennon weekend, also included a time capsule, to be opened in 30 years, containing a video by fans, a DVD about his life, books and his music, according to the Cleveland Leader. The capsule will be opened on his 100th birthday, 30 years from now.

According to the Leader, other time capsules will be dedicated in Liverpool and in the Icelandic capital Reykjavik, site of the Imagine Peace Tower, a tribute to Lennon from his widow, Yoko Ono.

Tomorrow morning on Weekend Edition Saturday, Scott Simon speaks with journalist David Sheff, who spent three weeks in the fall of 1980 interviewing Lennon for Playboy Magazine as he and Yoko Ono recorded Double Fantasy, just months before Lennon was shot.

Google visitors will discover an interactive doodle that links to a 32-second track of Lennon's popular song "Imagine." As it plays, the logo generates different pictures including that of a butterfly and flower.

In Liverpool, Lennon's son Julian and former wife Cynthia will join European ambassadors for the unveiling of the Global Peace Initiative's peace monument, according to the Liverpool Echo.

A Nov. 22, PBS “American Masters” series aired a documentary entitled “LennoNYC,” look at the last decade of his life Lennon living in New York with Ono. The documentary includes rare home movies of five years, Lennon withdrew from music to raise his son Sean. It was an act of domestic regarded as radical at the time.

For us, John Lennon was a pop star legend, he still alive in our heart.
