Britney Spears

NameBritney Jean Spears
BirthdayDecember 2, 1981
Birthplace: McComb, Mississippi, USA
Height5'-4"
Weight120 lbs

Britney Spears was a former Mouseketeer who turned into a international pop icon.  At the age of 18, she released her first single called Baby One More Time.  She was Yahoo!'s most searched from 2005 to 2008 and Guinness World Records named her the "Most Searched Person" in 2007 and 2009.  Britney broke the record for most albums sold by a teenager with over 37 million album sold and has sold over 100 million worldwide.

Britney Spears was perhaps the most popular female artist in the last decade.  When she was at the peak of her career, she started to crumble down slowly and would eventually hit rock bottom.  After a few years away from the spotlight, Britney would returned to the music industry.  Britney will probably never reach the stardom she once did but it is nice to see her making music and getting back on her feet again.  She is one of my favorite artists of all time.

And now the Katy perry video - watch the premiere now!

This is what Russell Brand sees
Following on from our earlier post that had nothing to do with Katy Perry, here is a post COMPLETELY ABOUT KATY PERRY.

Apparently she has a new video or something, for a thing called 'E.T' and it is KIND OF AMAZING in spite of featuring Kanye West.

Here it is:

And there it was.

In anticipation of the new Katy Perry, CockNBullKid has an 'Asthma Attack' in new video - watch now!

"my career plan is finally coming to...fruition."
Yes, we know you're all waiting for the Katy Perry video that premieres at noon, but in the meantime we thought we'd point out that a VERY GOOD SONG by a VERY GOOD ARTIST got a VERY GOOD VIDEO and has just come out.

It is called 'Asthma Attack,' and it is by CockNBullKid, an act (a girl) that has been on "the blogs'" up-and-coming lists for what seems like ages now.  And with good reason, it seems, as 'Asthma' is a delightful slice of Britpop with a nod back to that genre's golden age of Blur and all the other acts that weren't as good as Blur but sounded kind of similar.

So here it is, a really good track without a lot of bells and whistles, but one that is ultimately more satisfying than most any Katy Perry track.  Now, for another hour and twenty minutes, until 'E.T.' comes down from the heavens and distracts us with its insanely-budgeted Kanye West-ness, we can all sit back, relax, forget all about KP for just a moment, and enjoy this hidden gem.

U.N. helicopter shot at over Ivory Coast

A United Nations helicopter was shot at Monday while on a reconnaissance flight over the Ivory Coast, the U.N. said Tuesday.

The U.N. operation in the nation blamed forces that support Alassane Ouattara for firing the shots, which they said did not reach the helicopter. It was flying reconnaissance over Duekoue at the time, the U.N. said.

"Elements of the Forces Républicaines de Côte d'Ivoire (FRCI) fired at the helicopter, but failed to hit it," said the mission, which identified the group as supporting Ouattara. It said the action could be considered a war crime.

The international community has widely recognized Ouattara as the winner and legitimate leader of the west African nation, but incumbent President Laurent Gbagbo has refused to cede power. The stalemate has resulted in uncertainty and bloodshed.

Forces loyal to Ouattara said they have taken the cities of Daloa, Duekoue and Bondoukou. CNN could not verify those claims Tuesday.

Pro-Gbagbo forces shot at innocent civilians Monday in the Abidjan suburb of Williamsville, killing about a dozen people, the U.N. operation said in the same statement.

The U.N. is serving in a peacekeeper role in the nation, which has been wracked by violence and is sliding toward civil war following a November election.

Earlier this month, at least 25 people were killed in what the U.N. condemned as a shocking escalation in violence.

France, Ivory Coast's former colonial ruler, called it a "deliberate massacre of civilians" and called on the U.N. Security Council to adopt sanctions against Gbagbo and his circle, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Bernard Valero.

History of the African Head Wrap

African head wraps have been a part of both the African and the African American culture for centuries. The colorful cloths represent the history of the African people and are worn proudly by both men and women. African Americans who wish to preserve their heritage typically choose to wear head wraps even today. The head wrap has a different meaning when worn by men than it does when worn by women. Even the colors of the head wrap have a different meaning.

History
Head wraps have served as a head cover for Africans, mostly women, since at least the early 1700s. According to Danya London Fashions For All, a group of African slave women appear in a 1707 painting that was created by Dirk Valkenburg, a Danish painter, that depicted them wearing head wraps that appeared high on the forehead and above the ears. However, it is believed that African cultures used head wraps before the days of slavery so that men could show off their wealth and the level of their social status and so that women could prove that they were prosperous and spiritual.

Features
The head wrap typically covers the hair completely. One cultural significance about the African head wrap is that African women typically secure the wrap using a knot at the base of the crown which leaves the neck and forehead exposed. Part of the reason for this is to make the facial features appear striking so that anyone that wishes to look upon an African American woman would look up at her face rather than down at her body.

Identification
African head wraps come in many bright bold colors that animate the face. According to Africa Imports African Business, in West Africa, head wraps are referred to as "gele" in Yoruba or "ichafu" in Ibo. Some African American women continue to wear head wraps to boast their spiritual strength.

Considerations
The Clearinghouse on Educational Policy and Management at the University of Oregon states that policies should not restrict religious expression and that various forms of religious expression such as a head wrap should be respected as long as students' expression of religious beliefs does not infringe upon the rights of others.

Fun Fact
According to Danya London, the head wrap has now become a staple of traditional black dress; arrays of wonderful head wraps, fashionably worn at special events, have now become a fashion statement for the black woman. In history, the head wrap was hard to come by and therefore usually worn by wealthier black men and women. Now the head wrap is an available garment for men and women of all statuses to wear.

Myanmar swears in new president

Myanmar's former Prime Minister Thein Sein has been sworn in as the country's new president, marking the end of the military body that has governed the Asian nation for decades, state-run Myanmar Radio reported Wednesday.

Tin Myint Oo and Sai Muak Kham will serve as vice presidents. The president named 30 ministers and 39 deputy ministers to his government, according to state-run radio.

In February, Myanmar convened its first parliament in more than two decades in the capital, Naypyidaw.

The lawmakers came into office after elections were held in November for the first time in 20 years. The elections drew fire from critics who said the voting was aimed at creating a facade of democracy.

The regime refused to allow international monitors to oversee the race and would not allow international journalists to cover the voting from inside the country. Journalists who reported from inside Myanmar had to do so surreptitiously.

The military junta also overhauled Myanmar's constitution in a way that critics say was aimed at tightening the regime's grip.

The constitution now requires more than 100 military nominees in parliament. Myanmar, also known as Burma, has been under military rule since 1962.

Among those who boycotted the elections was opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy party, which described it as a sham.

Causes & Treatment of Hiccups

Hiccups are sudden, involuntary contractions of the diaphragm muscle. As the muscle contracts repeatedly, the opening between your vocal cords snaps shut to check the inflow of air and makes the hiccup sound. Irritation of the nerves that extend from the neck to the chest can cause hiccups.

Hiccups Causes
Many conditions are associated with hiccups, but none has been shown to be the cause of hiccups.

•If you eat too fast, you can swallow air along with your food and end up with a case of the hiccups.

•Any other practices that might irritate the diaphragm such as eating too much (especially fatty foods) or drinking too much (drunk people hiccup) can make you prone to having hiccups.

•In these instances, your stomach, which sits underneath and adjacent to the diaphragm, is distended or stretched. Because they occur in relation to eating and drinking, hiccups are sometimes thought to be a reflex to protect you from choking.

Try these methods at home:
•Hold your breath.
•Drink a glass of water quickly.
•Become frightened.
•Use smelling salts.
•Pull hard on your tongue.
•Place one-half teaspoon of dry sugar on the back of your tongue. (You can repeat this process 3 times at 2-minute intervals. Use corn syrup, not sugar, in young children.)
