Lolene is 'Rich (Fake It Til You Make It)' in her new video - watch the premiere now!

We told you about British electro-pop songstress Lolene a while ago, along with a pretty strange teaser clip of her new album 'Electrick Hotel.'  Now she's ready to unleash her very first official video, for lead single 'Rich (Fake It Til You Make It)', and it is very good.

It's essentially a trip down to the local grocery gone either VERY BAD or VERY GOOD depending on whether you are a good, God-fearing Christian or not.  Lolene starts out working the cash counter, and ends up filling her cart with all sorts of expensive goodies and then swimming through a glass of champagne without drowning or succumbing to alcohol poisoning somehow.

In short, it is VERY GOOD.

The album is out in August, but the single is out now.

'Oh No!' it's the new Marina and the Diamonds video! Watch the premiere now!

Ah, Marina, how we heart thee.  Quirky pop, hummable melodies, and increasingly odd/brilliant videos make us smile, and she has them in spades.   The latest from the 'one to watch' is 'Oh No', and sees Miss And The Diamonds taking on pop art and a number of primary colors.  Also the song is VERY GOOD.  It's that kind of track that probably will alienate the casual radio listener while endearing itself to anyone willing to give its oddness a chance.  'Oh No' deserves that chance too, as it's one of the most refreshing tracks to come out in quite a while.

The single is out June 26.  Buy it please.

A Brief History of World Cup Football

A Brief History of World Cup Football

The FIFA (Federation Internationale Football Association) World Cup Tournament takes place every four years, and pits the best football teams from participating nations against one another to determine the world champion team.

FIFA qualifying rounds take place over the three years between matches, and competition is fierce for the 32 final positions.

The tournament is the pinnacle of international football, and it brings together fans from all over the world in a different location every four years. With national pride at stake, the matches are generally very intense and fun to watch.

The Early Years

The first World Cup Tournament was held in Uruguay in 1930, with teams from South America, Europe, and North America competing.

Before the second World War, the World Cup struggled to find enough teams who were willing and able to afford an international tournament every four years. L

ogistics made traveling with a team difficult, and the many wars and skirmishes throughout most of Europe and South America dampened the enthusiasm of fans to make the trip to watch their nation compete.

The outbreak of World War II caused it to be canceled in 1942 and 1946.

How the Tournament Has Evolved

After World War II was over, football and the World Cup became more popular than ever. Europe and South America dominated the tournament, and usually had an easy time defeating the few teams who competed from North America and Africa.

In 1982 FIFA expanded the tournament to include 32 teams, which allowed more teams from outside of Europe and South America to participate.

Since the expansion, there have been more and more teams qualifying and competing well from every corner of the globe.

As the event has gained more publicity, and smaller nations have experienced more success, the worldwide popularity has grown exponentially.

What Makes Brazil Special

Brazil is the only nation that has been involved in every single FIFA World Cup Tournament since 1930. The Brazilian team is often one of the best on the field, and they have taken part in some of the most famous matches ever played.

In 1930, Brazil defeated the Uruguay team in a match that is still talked about today, known as the "Maracanazo" match.

Brazil has won the tournament five times, which gives it a narrow lead over the Italian team, which has won four times.

World Cup 2010

This summer the FIFA World Cup Tournament will be hosted by Cape Town, South Africa. The build-up to this year's tournament has been tense, with accusations of poor officiating in several of the qualifying matches.

This tension should lead to some intense games between rival nations during the tournament. Cape Town has built new roads and structures to accommodate the crowds that are expected to descend on the city in early summer.

Tournament matches are televised and broadcasted over the radio to almost every country in the world, and football fans everywhere will be watching every match closely to see who is named the best in the world for the next four years.

Kylie on Jonathan Ross! Watch the interview and 'All The Lovers' now!

Kylie paid a visit to the Wossy himself, Jonathan Ross last night, and was even kind enough to sing her new track 'All The Lovers,' which by some fluke of scheduling is out Monday physically.  It's almost as if they planned things that way, isn't it...

Miss Minogue talks tour, "bang on trend" dancers, and her clubbing habit, all the while reminding us why she's the biggest class act in the business.

"Very good."

Menya 'Can't Hurry Love' in new video! Watch the premiere now!

ScopiSat fave Menya is about to embark on a big tour, and thus will likely not be recording much for the next couple months.  To tide us over, though, they've been kind enough to do this RATHER NICE cover of The Supremes' 'Can't Hurry Love.'  As with many of their songs, Menya have done a video to accompany it.  We think you'll like it, mostly because it has MENYA in it and AN ACTUAL HIPPO.

We were right, weren't we?

Yes.  We were.

VARIATIONS OF A CUTE HAIRSTYLE-THE UPDO!

THE UPDO!

The "updo" is a classical hairstyle with many variations that can be worn all year long. I will be further explaining two variations of the updo; messy bun and sleek bouffant. Wacking hair up in a messy bun is a perfect way of disguising a bad hair day. A sleek bun is often appropraite for formal occasions and gives the appearence of seeming dressy and sophisticated without much effort.
Messy bun:
This look can be worn on any occasion but usually fits best into casual settings. Just pull it back into a bun at the level you please and secure with a hair tie or clip. Pull a few strands of hair out to frame your face and finish with a headband if wanted.

Sleek bouffant:
A sleek bun which can be refferred to as a bouffant is often seen as very elegant; perfect for a formal evening and sure to show off your beautiful face. One of my personal favourites is putting your hair into a ponytail and turning it into a plait; roll it up on top of your head and fasten with a bobby pin. The plait keeps your hair neat and in place. Use a bit of hairspray to ensure no flyaways and you have yourself a sophisticated hairstyle ready for a special occasion.

68: The Self-Empowered Woman: Juana Bacallao

Dear Followers,

Do you ever find yourself feeling tired? Ever wonder what it would be like top retire or take a permanent vacation? When you learn about today's Self- Empowered Woman, it just may reframe your thoughts about being too old (or too tired) to follow your dream...

Juana Bacallao is a Cuban diva who still performs (in a blond wig and a slinky red dress) almost every Friday night at the Havana nightclub Gato Tuerto (One-Eyed Cat) even though she is over 80 years old.

Nobody knows exactly when she was born, but some people suggest that she may be 93 years old. Her birth name was Neri Amelia Martinez Salazar and (1: No Paternal Safety Net) she was orphaned at the age of six. At that time she was sent to a Catholic boarding school (3: Belief in the Unbelievable).

By the time she'd become a teenager she'd landed the job of cleaning houses. Fortunately, a powerful music director (Obdulio Morales) heard her singing while she was sweeping, and immediately decided that she had what it took to become a star (4: Supportive Someone).

When most of us think of a female Cuban chanteuse we think of Celia Cruz, but Juana never left the cabaret scene in favor of becoming a TV or recording star. And although she still has not received a visa to perform in the U.S., this year she will travel to Mexico and Moscow for performances.

The now-elderly singer has always been known for her "unpredictable" behavior (5: Life is Not a Popularity Contest). It's not unusual for her to interrupt her performances to adjust her wig or makeup or even taunt male audience members for staring at her too intently.

Juana makes no secret that retirement is not an option. She told the AP "I will never retire. I will only stop when death has come for me...I have no age" (7: Magnificent Obsession).

Obviously, there's no tonic like doing what you love.

Looking forward to your comments...

Hi Guys

Maroon 5 are back in 'Misery' - watch a video for the new single now!

Maroon 5 burst on to the scene a few years ago, did a duet with Rihanna, and have quietly become sort of a mainstay of the music world.  It's a good thing, too, as it's allowed them to stick around long enough to give us 'Misery,' which is more than a bit similar to their smash 'This Love' but more pop-py and perhaps even better.  It comes from their new album, called 'Hands All Over,' which Rolling Stone describes as their "brightest record yet."  Translated, that means us pop fans are going to LOVE THE SH*T OUT OF IT.

The track just debuted, so there's no official video yet, but luckily some guys have put a very good one together using nothing but a video camera, some douchy "eccentric guy at the party who has a fro to get laid" consignment shop clothes and - we're guessing - frequent use of the word "bro."

'Hands All Over' is out September 21 and is likely to be VERY GOOD

WHY DOES THE SITUATION HAVE A SINGLE? Listen to the premiere now!

I think you'll all join us in a collective "WTF" about the new The Situation "single" called, imaginatively, 'The Situation.'  It features Fatman Scoop, who the world was clearly clamoring to hear more from, and some fist-pumping, eyebrow-threading, muscle-juicing beats that wouldn't sound particularly out of place in a Miami nightclub in 2002.

Sure it's terrible, but come on, we still TOTALLY WOULD.

We actually looked for a release date for this gem but apparently no one actually cares.

Christina Aguilera's 'Bionic' is an EPIC FAIL

Oh, Christina.  How it has all gone so very, very wrong.  First the lead track 'Not Myself Tonight' sputtered just about everywhere it was released - it only made it to #23 on Billboard's Hot 100, and even in the UK the track struggled to a disappointing #12 - and now any hopes of the campaign being saved by the album release have been dashed, diced, and spat upon by a troupe of Lady Gaga drag queens with murder on their minds.

Yes, we've seen some rather lackluster album debuts recently, but 'Bionic''s 111,838 even throws under Mariah's disastrous 'Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel' which debuted with 180,000 in the U.S.  In a sad coincidence, both records bowed at number 3 on the Billboard Top 200.    'Bionic' fared a little better - chart wise at least - in the UK, where it scraped to the number 1 position.  It certainly did better than 'Memoirs,' which tanked outside the top 20, but Christina's accomplishment is somewhat tarnished by the fact that it had no competition and sold only 23,000 copies.  In a country that still buys records by the bucketload, that's pretty dismal.  Like, 'MacGruber' dismal. (EDIT - it only gets worse, as this week the album plunged from 1 to 29. Yes.  29.)

So today, as you are celebrating your fathers, take a break from all that masculine energy to spare a thought for Miss Aguilera, who is probably crying into her macrobiotic what germ as we speak.

Chalk this up to a terrible choice of first single (didn't we learn anything from Kylie's '2 Hearts'/'X'??) and Christina's refusal to give the public what they want.  Her fan base has matured, and as much as she wishes she was still 'Dirrty,' we have plenty of electro-skanks already.  What we don't have plenty of are seriously talented vocalists who can literally rule a tune like 'You Lost Me.'  Let's hope her label chucks it out as the next single and turns this ship around.

67: The Self-Empowered Woman: Beka Ntsanwisi

Dear Followers,

These days it seems that everyone is paying close attention to soccer's World Cup Competition in South Africa. So I thought - in the spirit of Self-Empowered Women everywhere - that you might like to meet an amazing woman named Rebecca Beka Ntsanwisi.

She was born in 1968 at Nkowankowa Village outside Tzaneen in Limpopo, a province of South Africa. Her father was an educator, and as a youngster she was encouraged to work hard at school and help improve her community (2: An Early Sense of Direction). After graduating from high school she attended the University of Venda, where she studied music (9: Music).

In the 1990s, she began working at a radio station, and soon became the head of its social responsibility program. She has been particularly effective at helping those in rural areas, especially impoverished people.

In 2003, Beka was diagnosed with colon cancer and two years later was wheelchair dependant (12: Hard Times). During her illness she worked with the Department of Health to a) form support groups for people with cancer and b) fight the belief in witchcraft that still exists in some communities.

During her own treatment, she often visited public hospitals and was saddened by how many elderly female patients were treated. Many of them seemed lonely, depressed and/or confused, but Beka felt that exercise (particularly soccer) just might give these women the lift they needed.

Today, the group that Beka founded in 2005 is known as Vakhegula Vakhegula (Grannies Grannies) and includes 35 players from 49 to 84 years old. The team has become so well known that it has been invited to come to America in August to compete in the Veteran's Cup (for teams with players 30 and over) in Lancaster, Mass. (13: More Than Meets the Eye).

After Beka's husband died the Grannies helped her deal with grief, and another player who lost eight of her twelve children found that the soccer team became an extended, supportive family. When the Grannies were young girls playing on a soccer team simply wasn't an option, but today - thanks to Beka - these women have an acceptable athletic outlet (8: Turning No Into Yes).

Beka has won numerous awards including (five tines) the Black Management Forum Limpopo Woman of Excellence Award, the Limpopo Achievers Award, the Premier's Award and the Nkowakowa branch of the South African National Civic Organization honored her for her work to help the helpless.

Today, Beka's cancer is in remission, but she considers her work for the poor and Grannies Grannies to be her legacy.

Looking forward to your comments...

Miley performs 'Can't Be Tamed' on Letterman - is anyone blown away by how good she is? Watch now!

It's no secret we love 'Party In The USA' because it is amazing.  We also love 'See You Again' because it is a brilliant pop song.  As for Miley herself, however, we've always had sort of mixed feelings.  Could 'Can't Be Tamed' be a turning point in our feelings about the teen sensation?

With the recent up-skirt picture controversy (thanks, Perez Hilton - always a class act) there has been much discourse about whether Miss Cyrus is growing up too fast and ruining our youth.  The answer to both is probably a RESOUNDING YES, but when corruption looks and sounds this good, who cares?

Somehow when we least expected it, Miley turned into a VERY GOOD little pop star.  The album 'Can't Be Tamed' is out June 21, and the single is out now.

More tracks from Kylie's new album - listen to 30 second clips of every song!!

A new Kylie 'Aphrodite' sampler has emerged, and this time we are treated to 30 second clips of EVERY TRACK on the album.  Surprisingly, there are actually a few more downtempo numbers, not just the high energy club bangers we were led to expect.  And unlike 'X', it sounds like one cohesive project that has a great chance to go down as a defining pop album.

The album pre-order has been knocking around the top 70 of iTunes' U.S. chart all week, and in the U.K. the single is at number 3, weeks before its release.

N.E.R.D. are back - preview their new video with Nelly Furtado!

N.E.R.D. have been off the scene for a while, so ScopiSat did some nosing around (read: wikipedia-ing) to see what they had been up to. The answer is "nothing particularly interesting" but we did find out that as a band, N.E.R.D. have not been nearly as successful as we assumed. The group has never (!!) had a top 100 Billboard single (excluding dance charts) and while their first two albums went Gold, their last has only sold about 250,000 in the U.S. Then we remembered that N.E.R.D. is actually just a side project and two of the three members are actually THE NEPTUNES who produced EVERY NUMBER ONE HIT in America between 2001 and 2006. So they're doing fine.

Anyway, N.E.R.D. has a new song out with Nelly Furtado and they made a video for it. Here's a preview.

The new album is out Sept 7

Katy Perry shows us her 'California Gurrls' in new video - watch the premiere now!

Ah, always classy, this one... True to form, Katy's got all sorts of debauchery and nonsense up in her new video.  There are COLORS and BOOBS and COLORFUL BOOBS and Jell-o for some reason.

It's actually quite fun, and matches the unapologetically pop sound of the track perfectly.  It's also one of the few songs we don't mind having a completely pointless rap on.  Somehow the whole thing just....works.

Out now in the US and from June 21 in the UK.

Kylie Update: 'All The Lovers' charts and a new movie role!

So 'All The Lovers' has finally rolled as a single-track digital download out in almost every territory, and the results are looking pretty solid.  It currently sits at #3 on UK iTunes, behind only the World Cup themes (notorious for selling bucketloads and then diving off the charts altogether) and #141 on US iTunes.  That last number might sound a little disappointing, but the track was only released a few hours ago, and considering that #140-1 are all Glee it's probably not a terrible result.  Most of the interest in the U.S. will likely come when the remixes are released in a couple weeks, and might be boosted by the upcoming North American album promotion she has hinted at.

Just in case you've forgotten, here's the video ONE MORE TIME:

In other news, Kylie recently revealed that she is not only considering returning to the big screen, but is actively deciding between roles that have been offered.  Let's just hope she's not considering 'Bio-Dome 2'.  Read all about it here.

Adam Lambert asks 'If I Had You' and it is very good - watch the video premiere now!

Despite any initial doubts about Adam Lambert's career trajectory after debut single 'For Your Entertainment' failed to crack the top 40 in the US and scraped a rather non-canon 37 in the UK, he managed to turn things around with the US top 10 hit 'Whatya Want From Me.'  Hoping to continue that success, Glambert has just released the video for 'If I Had You,' and we're actually quite digging it.  It's sort of 'Mad Hatter meets Mad Max.'  There is so much 'Mad'-ness, in fact, that we even toyed around with a new nickname for Lambert...something like Madbert or Madam Lambert, but we decided against it at the last minute.

Anyhoodle, here's the clip.  It's pretty ok don't you think?  The song isn't half bad either.

'If I Had You' is available for download now.  Let's hope the video helps it out on the charts, as its current Billboard placing is......#112 :-/

Does anyone else wish the new Kanye West track 'Power' was terrible? Listen now!

Kanye's been flying a bit low lately, after something apparently happened at some awards show.  Not one to rest on his laurels, however, he used that 'time off' to record some music, and to all you 'hAtErZz' out there (ScopiSat included) we are sorry to say it's actually quite good.  It's very 'Jesus Walks,' and serves as a nice reminder that behind the ridiculous ego there lies some very real talent.

The album 'Good Ass Job' is out in September and boasts some of the finest talent in music today.

FOTD

Hi everyone,
This post is a selection of photos showing my makeup from today.
