43. The Self-Empowered Woman: Agatha Christie

Dear Followers,

Can't believe it's the last day of 2009! We've all been through so much, but everyone seems to agree that 2010 is bound to be easier for all of us. Not surprisingly, my New Year's Resolutions involve better health, book sales, and more amazing women for the blog.

Today's amazing woman is Dame Agatha Christie, who has been called - by the "Guinness Book of World Records" as the best-selling book author of all times as well as the best-selling writer of any time (along with Shakespeare). She has sold four billion copies of her novels - only the Bible has sold more. Christie is the "most translated individual author" with books in at least 56 languages. And her play " The Mousetrap," which opened in 1952, has been running in London for 38 years, is the longest-running show in the history of English plays, and has currently been performed 23,000 times.

Not surprisingly, Christie has plenty of Self-Empowered Woman traits (especially #7: Magnificent Obsession). Her first mystery novel ws published in 1920, but had been rejected by a number of publishers (8: Turning No's Into Yes's). Although her second marriage was happy, her first husband oleft her for another woman (15: Forget About Prince Charming), which led to Christie's nervous breakdown and a ten-day disapparence where she registered at a Yorkshire hotel under the name of her husband's mistress.

A number of critics - from Robert Graves to Raymond Chandler - were dismissive of her work (13: More Than Meets The Eye). In spite of her detractors, Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot are as popular today as always. In fact, Poirot is the only fictional character to ever receive an obituary in the New York Times.

Agatha Mary Clarissa Miller Christie died January 12, 1976 when she was 85 years old.

Looking forward to your comments...

One Republic have 'All The Right Moves' in new video - watch now

Ryan Tedder and his band One Republic are back with a song that sounds....like every other Ryan Tedder track. That's not a bad thing, of course, as he's penned such masterpieces as 'Apologize' and Leona Lewis' 'Bleeding Love.' We're totally loving the subtle updates on the formula though - the more organic guitar and drum sounds, particularly. The video we could take or leave...it's a bit 90's throwback (Annie Lennox 'No More I Love Yous,' anyone?) but the whole thing ends up a solid 7/10.

The song is out January 11, from One Republic's forthcoming new album

Happy New Year from ScopiSat and Kylie

2009 comes to an end in mere hours, and since we celebrated Christmas with some Kylie it seems only appropriate to do so for the new year as well. Here's Kylie singing 'I Should Be So Lucky' on Jools Holland for New Years a couple years back. Here's to a great 2010!

Billboard's Top 25 of '09 in under 5 minutes

So '09 is drawing to a close, and the next chart will be officially dated "2010," so we now know with absolution what the top 25 tracks of the year were.  And what does one do with such powerful knowledge?  Jam them all into a five-minute megamix, of course.

DJ Earworm is at it again - see if you can name all the songs.

Literally Amazing.

PRODUCTS I AM LOVING AND SUPER EXCITING NEWS

Hello,
I thought that i would just share a few items/products that i have been really enjoying recently. Oh and i have some SUPER EXCITING news to share with you in the update.

My Chanel ring has been making me exceptionally happy. It's just so shiny and i get so many compliments when i wear it.

My bikini. Not only is it gorgeous but very good quality. I went in the spa today and it didnt do any annoying un-tying things or affect the material. It was very soft and comfortable.

MAC Mischeif Makers "5 Cool Capers" set. From the holiday collection, mini pigment samples. I have mainly been using the second (Kitschmas), third (Glitter-Transparent Teal) and fifth (Grape) pigments.

My Cab 55 purse. I am just too excited about this!! Possibly the easiest purse i have ever had. Also the prettiest and the most fashionable.

These heels are so nice. Really high but easy to walk in and somehow comfortable.

This Swarovski bracelet has been matching everything i wear and is so sparkly.

YSL "Baby Doll". I used to love this and went through a whole bottle. I kind of went off it but now i am starting to like it again. Such a classy and in-your-face scent.

Lush "Rosebud Big Bath". When i took a break from hauling i went to lush and picked up a few things. Out of them all i am loving a very simple bath bomb. A very tangy, bi-carb smell.

QUICK UPDATE
I have created a YouTube account and tomorrow i will be filming my very first video.
But i am really scared. Not scared as such but kind of pessemistic towards noone watching me. I really want to share my knowledge on beauty. Help people by giving them tutorials on hair and makeup. Telling them about new products and reviewing them. However, i am not sure if it will be helping anyone if noone watches. Anyway, that just me being insecure. It will be a really fun channel, i will try to keep it interesting and listen to my public. Please come and watch, links will be everywhere tomorrow so you will definatley know when i have posted my first videos. I will be super duper appreciative of your support.
For my YouTube link, click HERE.
There is nothing up yet, but just so your prepared. I am so excited to show (broadcast-haha)more of myself to you guys. I am going to be doing my "What's In Your Purse" video and my "Christmas Haul".

THANK YOU SO MUCH

A friendly holiday reminder from Amy Winehouse (photo)

Crack kills, kids.

Paloma Faith wonders if "You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful" - watch the video now

While Amy Winehouse is "otherwise engaged," somebody has to pick up the MOR-retro-throwback banner.  That somebody is Paloma Faith.  Your grandma will love it, your kids won't hate it, and after it's over the world will be exactly the same.

Still, pretty video though.
The single is out now with an album in February, and a U.S. launch sometime in 2010.

42. Nancy Meyers: Self-Empowered Woman

Dear Followers,

I'm willing to bet that many of your favorite movies - like mine - over the last 20 years have been made due to the genius of writer/director/producer Nancy Meyers. From "Private Benjamin" to both versions of "Father of The Bride" to "The Holiday" and "It's Complicated," Meyers has changed the way that Hollywood power brokers think about movie audiences.

Not surprisingly, Meyers has her share of Self-Empowered characteristics. She definitely surprised movie studios with her ability to create highly profitable films (13: More Than Meets The Eye). And after her long domestic and creative partnership with Charles Shyer, they split in 1998 (15: Forget About Prince Charming). Since she's been on her own, however, her last four movies have earned $200 million worldwide (8: Turning No's Into Yes's).

As a director, Meyers is famous for micromanaging every tiny detail about her films (10: The Critic Within), and although her two daughters are now grown, when they were younger they went on movie sets as much as possible, had private tutors, and even had their own cribs on location with their Mom (16: Intensive Motherhood).

Meyers has given us movies that celebrate intelligent, accomplished women who have retained their appeal even if (or perhaps because) they've lost their youth. Critics predict that "It's Complicated" will be the fifth home run in a row for 60 year old Nancy Meyers, who managed to tap into her own life and values to give the rest of us a good time at the movies.

Looking forward to your comments...

Lets all have a listen to Sade's "Soldier of Love"

Very nice, yes?

The "sure to be sex-inducing" album is out Feb 8 worldwide

UPDATED: WHATS IN MY PURSE

Hello,
I have a "Whats In My Purse" post already but i was thinking i would do an updated one because it has been requested along with a makeup collection and closet tour. For those people, i am still trying to figure out how i can do collections and tours, working around not having a YouTube. So here's what is in my purse...

I am now using my new Cab 55 purse, which i was super excited to recieve on Christmas day :)

Firsly, my phone is kept in the side pouch so i dont have to rummage through things when my phone rings.

I still have the same wallet, my pink leather Guess one.

I now have a second wallet to keep giftcards and membership cards in. Things that won't fit in my main wallet are put here. Just to keep my super important cards (debit, ID ect.) seperate.

Haha, this is random! My friend just came back from New Zeland and gave me a sheep keychain and magnet. I went shopping with her last week and have not gotten around to putting this elsewhere. On a side note, isn't it cute?!?!

Mentos gum. I had to try this out because the picture was the pretty and the packaging is beautiful. The taste on the other hand is yet to be adjusted to.

This is my candy purse. I know this is really stupid but noone knows anyone who eats more than i do and i am constantly craving sugar so this comes in handy.

My friend wants to borrow Mean Girls and a vintage Fall Out Boy CD so they are in my purse for when i see her on Wednesday.

A book i am currently reading. It has 896 pages and i am up to page 519. I would consider myself a confident reader but i am very proud of myself because i never read such a mature story line and i am keeping up.

Sunglasses. A must have if you dont want to fry your eyes.

MY MAKEUP BAG
-Chi Chi lipstick
-MAC Dazzleglass
- Australis lipgloss
- Revlon Kabuki
-MAC Studio Fix
-Revlon lipstick
-Bobby pin
-Spare contacts

Britney Spears "Curious". This is the mini 10ml version so it is perfect size. I think this is in here just in case i forget to put on purfume.

DKNY "Be Delicious" Green Apple purfume, Body Lotion. This is so gorgeous. Smells just like the purfume and makes my skin feel so nice.

My Clean & Clear "Mini Skin Kit". I was given this for free from Priceline when i spent over $100. The size is perfect for your purse and it really is something you must have because you never know when you are going to be caught out. Your skin will really thank you for having this.

A Chanel foundation sample. This was free when i bought some Chanel the other day. It is still in here and i think i might keep it in here because it might be useful. There is really no point me "trying this out" because this is my HG foundation anyway.

For my hair and the fly aways i may get when out. Just a tiny bit of this oil on the tips of my fingers to run down my hair and it makes a big difference.

OVERALL OF PURSE CONTENTS!
Oh and i almost forgot! I recieved a request to show a picture of my bed linen. I am not sure why, i think people saw it as a setting to take some of my photos and wanted to see more. So here it is...kinda strange and awkward but here nevertheless.
& I have a feeling that i got asked where i got them from and how much. The answer is Myer for $300. I think the people who were ansking were American so sorry but they might not be avaliable over there.
