Palin, Alaska governor to step down. Many states, he prepares to leave office because of the larger step: the White House. But until now, he's not willing to confirm.

Gebremariam Wins New York City Marathon 2010

Gebre Gebremariam of Ethiopia, in his first ever marathon, is the winner of the 2010 ING New York City Marathon in an unofficial time of 2:08:14. If you're wondering, that's an average pace of 4:53 per mile. For 26.2 miles.

It's the fastest time since Rodgers Rop turned in a 2:08:07 in 2002. Gebremariam becomes the first debutant to win the race since American Alberto Salazar accomplished the feat in 1980.
Kenya's Emmanuel Mutai, the 2010 London Marathon runner-up, finished second, in 2:09:17. Mutai was the aggressor in the second half of the race, but when Gebremariam kicked in Central Park, Mutai just could not keep up.

Kigen Kipkosgei of Kenya crossed the finish line in third place, with a time of 2:10:39.
American Meb Keflezighi, the 2009 NYC Marathon champion, the first American to win since 1982, was dropped around Mile 21 and finished sixth (2:11:30).

As dramatic an accomplishment as Keflezighi had for the United States last year, this year’s men’s marathon belonged to Ethiopia.

By Saturday night, the buzz had begun among the men’s professional field that Gebrselassie’s knee was not in good shape. He was getting it worked on, two coaches noted, but whether that was strategy or reality was yet unclear.

Gebrselassie made it clear on his Twitter feed right before the race, announcing that he had inflammation in the knee after the long flight from Addis Ababa. Officials for the New York Road Runners announced during the race that Gebrselassie had a magnetic resonance imaging exam on Saturday, which showed fluid in his knee.
From the very beginning, this was not the same Gebrselassie who owns the world record of 2:03:59. He came off the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge tucked into a large lead pack, having run a very slow opening mile — 5:55. He said before the race that he was going to sit back and watch, and apparently the rest of the pack decided to do that in the early miles.

But by the time the runners hit the Queensboro Bridge, Gebremariam moved out in front with a small pack of four runners. It was then that Gebrselassie started drifting to the side of the bridge, on the downhill slope that could have been a metaphor for his career.
He stopped before he even made it to Manhattan. On the delirious First Avenue, flanked by the largest, wildest-cheering crowds on the course, Gebremariam joined a group of four: James Kwambai of Kenya, Mutai and Abderrahime Bouramdane of Morocco.

Only Mutai and Gebremariam were left in the lead by the time they entered Central Park in the 24th mile. Gebremariam had already won here this year — in the Healthy Kidney 10-kilometer race in May. The finish line was the same as for the marathon, the perfect warm-up for an even more celebrated victory six months later.

Cholera Suspects In Haiti, Hundred Dead

Haiti somehow managed to dodge the specter of a fatal water-borne disease outbreak until earlier this week, when a fatal diarrhea-causing disease struck ferociously, rapidly causing over 1,500 people to fall ill. Over 140 people have died reported Reuters AlertNet. Haiti's President Preval confirmed cholera as the cause of the outbreak Friday morning. This is the first time Haiti has seen cholera for 100 years. Speaking to Reuters, Preval said, "I can confirm it is cholera. Now we are making sure people are fully aware of precautionary measures they have to take to prevent contamination."

Aid groups are rushing in medicine and other supplies Friday to combat Haiti's deadliest health problem since its devastating earthquake. Haiti's President Rene Preval confirmed the outbreak of cholera in the quake-hit country's central region, saying his government was taking measures to try to stop the disease spreading. The outbreak in the rural Artibonite region, which hosts thousands of quake refugees, appeared to confirm relief groups' fears about sanitation for homeless survivors living in tarp cities and other squalid settlements. With the proper resources and assistance, this disease and others would be preventable. Note to Congressman Tom Coburn: there are real-world consequences to withholding aid from Haiti over an over-hyped political non-issue.

Two regions north of the capital, Port-au-Prince, Lower Artibonite and the Central Plateau, have been afflicted with the deadly diarrhea-causing disease, with as many as 1,500 people reported ill late Thursday. The United Kingdom Press Association (UKPA) reported that one hospital in St. Marc, Haiti was overwhelmed with patients, and hundreds of people were being treated for dehydration outside in the parking lot of the hospital.

The Guardian reported that fear of becoming infected with the disease has caused healthy Haitians to refuse to help those who are ill. Presidential candidate, Charles Henry Baker, who helped bring water to the hospital, asked for help.

How Haiti has escaped a major disease outbreak until now is unknown. Conditions in the country have not improved much since the early months following the earthquake, causing a UN official, Walter Kaelin to issue a statement saying Haiti remains in a state of unresolved crisis.

Infowars Moneybomb from Alex Jones

On Thursday, October 14, Alex will be on the air for 24 hours as part of the effort to raise the money required to keep the Infowars operation up and running. The last moneybomb was held three years ago. However, since that time, the economy has grown worse, thanks primarily to the concerted efforts of the globalist ruling class. Over the last three years, Alex’s audience has tripled and yet the amount of money coming to fund the operation has remained the same.

Jones has described himself as a libertarian as well as an “aggressive constitutionalist.” Jones added that since his site does not get corporate backing that some such sites get he is dependent on supporters to fund the site.

Beginning at 11:00 am CST on Thursday, Alex will present for free streamed over the internet a large number of previously unreleased videos. Interviews with Paul Craig Roberts, Katherine Austin Fitts, Lord Christopher Monckton, Sherri Tenpenny, Jeffrey Smith, Rev. Clenard Childress, Alan Watt, and dozens of others will be aired. Streaming this new content will cost us tens of thousands of dollars over a 24 hour period. In addition, the marathon show will feature a number of live guests, including Max Keiser, Gerald Celente, Webster Tarpley, and Paul Craig Roberts.

The success of the infowar and our survival as a premium source for truth depends on you. Visit the Infowars Moneybomb page today.

Earthquakes In Oklahoma This Morning

An earthquake, centered near Norman, was felt in parts of Bartlesville, Dewey and Pawhuska this morning. The Oklahoma earthquake was felt across a wide swath of the country. As far away as Dallas/Fort Worth, individuals are reporting feeling the shaker. The very shallow earthquake meant that the shaking was felt over a much wider diameter than earthquakes are usually felt. The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting that the earthquake was “probably” not enough to cause significant damage.

“The information we have now is that it was a 4.5 (magnitude) on the Richter scale,” National Weather Service Tulsa Meteorologist Craig Sullivan told the Examiner-Enterprise this morning

The earthquake occurred at 9:06 a.m. and was centered 8 miles north of Slaughterville, Sullivan said. Slaughterville is located southeast of Norman.

“It seems to have been felt through, of course, all of the Oklahoma City area and most of the Tulsa area … through a good part of central and eastern Oklahoma,” Sullivan said.

A few areas in north Texas have also reported feeling the quake, according to Sullivan. He said the National Weather Service in Tulsa had not received any reports of damage.

The reports coming in over social networks and through traditional media are all saying the Oklahoma earthquake was minor. Most individuals who felt the earthquake did not even realize that it was, in fact, a quake. Some say the shaking felt like a strong wind. Others say the earthquake felt more like a settling of the ground.

Medal Of Honor Review

Medal of Honor game seeing its US release date today (Tuesday, October 12th), this is one of the greatest game that gamers wait for the release. So after searched I found some review for Medal of Honor game.

The first review from Official xbox magazine. This review gave the “Medal of Honor” game a rating of 88 percent out of 100, and noted a few good points as well as a few downsides. While this review praises the game for its strong story line and excellent multiplayer mode, it does note the disappointment in its short campaign.

The next review comes from Tom Bramwell from eurogamer.net, who gave it an 8/10 rating. Although this review claims that the multiplayer is close to that of “Bad Company 2,” it does go on to say that it would be hard to put it down in any way.

It’s the multiplayer – which features five game modes – that appears to be praised again in this review, while the script and storyline has been described as mixed outside of the action. The final review that I came across is a video review from Arthur Gies at uk.ign.com.

While other reviews praise the storyline, this one claims that it has a few major issues. Another criticism is the single player gameplay, which they claim gets tedious at times. This review rates the audio and visuals on the plus side, while noting a spotty framerate and boring levels as the downside.

Gamesradar thought the campaign warranted a "good" 7/10 and the multiplayer component a "great 8/10. "If you've tired of CoD, Medal of Honor might be just the medicine you need," it said.

Edge gave the game 7/10, saying "EA's sombre reboot proves a mostly convincing representation of modern warfare, but lacks the bravado of its peers."

Elsewhere, Joystiq awarded the title 4/5, concluding: "Medal of Honor's campaign is an exceptional experience, but the total package simply doesn't beat Call of Duty."

And Eurogamer gave it an 8/10, noting: "... It's compelling and enjoyable to play on a visceral level, but it's a shame it lacks the creative bravery to match the courage of the heroes it so reveres."

According to IGN UK the campaign is too short, this isn’t a problem for me as I am more interested in multiplayer gaming, however IGN UK also say that “multiplayer will probably wear out its welcome faster than other big shooters this year”, this is what really worries me.

IGN suggest that the maps grow old quickly, this could be its downfall as people will not want to play online for too long if the maps really are this bad, perhaps DLC could improve things, however it is not promising to hear that a reviewer has noticed this in a relatively short amount of time.

Love or hate Modern Warfare 2 you have to admit that all of the multiplayer maps offer different styles of gameplay and don’t really seem similar to one and another, obviously map packs have helped to keep the game fresh once the 15 initial offerings got boring, so I really hope Danger Close have some map packs up their sleeve.

First Test Glide from Virgin Galactic

Virgin Galactic made a major milestone last weekend in its plans to run a commercially viable space travel service. Virgin Galactic have been taking orders from tourists since 2005 for a service that saves costs and fuel because the spacecraft launches from a high altitude plane. The test showed the return of the spacecraft to an airbase after a successful launch of the craft from 45,000 feet.

Enterprise made its first solo test flight in California on Sunday, BBC reported . The spaceship was carried to 45,000 feet by a plane, then dropped to glide back to earth.

Virgin Galactic plans to charge $200,000 to take passengers on short journeys above the atmosphere. The company has already taken deposits from 370 customers.

"This was one of the most exciting days in the whole history of Virgin," said Richard Branson, billionaire founder of the Virgin empire.

The Enterprise will be able to carry two crewmembers and six passengers.

A carrier plane will carry the Enterprise to its launch altitude, then release the craft in mid-air. Enterprise will then ignite its single hybrid rocket engine to blast into space.

As the first commercial suborbital space venture, Virgin is being watched closely by government and the industry and safety is, of course, a primary consideration. All systems were checked, the reusable spacecraft's stall characteristics and general flight behavior were assessed and actual performance was checked against data projected by simulation. Siebold and Alsbury got in one practice approach at altitude before heading for the real thing. "The VSS Enterprise was a real joy to fly, especially when one considers the fact that the vehicle has been designed not only to be a Mach 3.5 spaceship capable of going into space but also one of the worlds highest altitude gliders," Siebold said.

Miss USA Winner in 1957 Dies at 71

Miss USA winner in 1957, Leona Gage, died from heart failure at the age of 71 at a Sherman Oaks hospital on Tuesday. Gage enjoyed her Miss USA title only briefly because the next day it was discovered she was married with two children, and the title was taken from her. Gage, who was only 18 years old when she won the pageant, also fibbed about her age, telling officials she was 21 years old.

Gage, like Vanessa Williams and Carrie Prejean generations later, became more famous for the scandal surrounding her win, than for wearing the crown. She appeared on television many times because of the controversy, including the famous Ed Sullivan Show. Gage was first married at age 14 then had her second child at age 16.

After winning the Miss Maryland USA title in the 1957 Miss USA competition in Long Beach California, Gage told reporters she did not have a boyfriend and “I want to wait until I’m 26 before I become seriously interested in the opposite sex”.

Just a day later her story was exposed. She had been already been married twice, both times at age 14 – the first was quickly annulled – and had her second child at 16, all forbidden for the resume of a pageant contestant.

Banksy On The Simpsons

British graffiti artist and political activist Banksy has directed his own version of the famous Simpsons titles.
His take on the intro features the graffiti man’s tag all over the Springfield landscape before the sequence takes a dark turn.
Depressed looking sweatshop workers are shown animating the show and manufacturing Bart dolls, in a surreal spin on the usual titles.

The result is one of the funniest, but at the same time the most depressing intros to the popular cartoon series we’ve seen.

We won’t reveal what happens in the intro, which is spreading like wildfire over the internet; you can see it for yourself in the video embedded below. Know this, though: all those Bart Simpson dolls you see at every corner, well, they’re made of broken hearts and shattered dreams.

Columbus Day 2010

Columbus Day is a federal holiday in The United States, is the day when Americans celebrate the man who allegedly discovered America. As usual, this year Americans celebrate Columbus Day at 12th October 2010, on Tuesday.

The very reason for all this is that the exact birth date of Christopher Columbus is not known, according to people it is between the twenty fifth of August and the thirty first of October. We don’t know the exact date of birth of the discoverer of the American continent. In the most parts of the country the jobs that are affiliated with the American government are closed on the 11th of October. The 11th of October has been decided as the Columbus Day and normally this day is declared a holiday, but many organizations and states don’t recognize this day.

The stocks will remain open today and if you also work in such a place then you have to go to work today, this shows that the corporate world does not recognize the Columbus Day. The United States is actually not the only one that is going to celebrate the Columbus Day today, many of other countries that include several of the European countries will also celebrate the Columbus Day.

Queen Of Gospel Music, Albertina Walker, Has Passed Away

Walker was born in Chicago in 1929. She had been in the hospital since Aug. 29, the day she celebrated her 81st birthday, and she died this morning at 81 years old.

At the age of four, Albertina began singing in the Children’s Choir of the West Point Baptist Church under the direction of Professor Pete Williams. It was during this time that America had undergone a major economic collapse and the country was experiencing a great social and political upheaval.

Albertina is committed to the preservation of gospel music and the enhancement of the human experience. To this end, she has lent her support to many charitable organizations such as The United Negro College Fund, The American Cancer Society, The National Council of Negro Women, The Nation of Islam’s “Million Family” March, One Voice “A Fight Against AIDS”, The NAACP and Operation Push. Year of 1988 Albertina founded The Albertina Walker Scholarship Foundation for the Creative and Performing Arts. The foundation offers financial assistance to college students in the form of scholarships to further their education in the field of music.

Ms. Walker’s personal and television appearances worldwide are too numerous to mention. However, she has sung for United States President George Bush, former President Bill Clinton, and The President of South Africa, President Nelson Mandela. Albertina has appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show”, “Good Morning America”, and “The Travis Smiley Show”. Albertina is a frequent guest on the nationally syndicated BET and Word television show, “Bobby Jones Gospel”, “Testify” and “Singsation”. Her fans have also enjoyed her in the motion picture “Leap of Faith” starring Steve Martin, “Going Home to Gospel with Patti Labelle”, the Off Broadway play “The Gospel Truth”, and “The Evolution of Gospel”.

Over the summer, Albertina had taken very ill and was hospitalized with breathing complications stemming from her battle with emphysema. During this time, many had reported that she has died when in fact she hadn’t. Unfortunately, this time it is true and she will be missed. Let ’s pray for her family, friends and all of those that loved her in the gospel music industry

Terror Hysteria Issues Through Europe

“Terrorists have targeted and attacked subway and rail systems, as well as aviation and maritime services. U.S. citizens should take every precaution to be aware of their surroundings and to adopt appropriate safety measures to protect themselves when traveling.” The official announcement referenced attacks from the past.

Travelers are warned to take extra security measures. They’re told to protect themselves and remain aware of their surroundings. How is an average person expected to protect themselves against gunfire? It’s like those airline pamphlets that advise placing your head between your knees in the event of a crash landing at high speeds, when they would be just as likely to survive doing a headstand on their armrest.

In Europe, the average traveller is in need of a decent Kevlar body suit.

There’s a high level of uncertainty to the alert. Not only is it nearly all-encompassing with it’s list of locations (all standard tourist hot-spots like the Eifel tower, the London Eye, the Louvre, etc.) but on top of that, the US State Department has been vague about the potential geographic location of an attack, suggesting Britain, France, Denmark and Germany.

Wouldn’t travelers be better off if they hadn’t been warned at all? The feeling of impending doom can seriously ruin the leisurely atmosphere of a vacation. The report advises to “…Be aware of your surroundings”. That sounds utterly miserable. I can picture the Louvre-packed with bloated, red-faced and fanny-pack toting American tourists, all spinning their heads on a swivel to scrutinize every (lets be honest…) brown-skinned or suspiciously well-tanned figure in their general vicinity.

The question of the hour would be, just where is the evidence of the threat that would warrant such a paranoia? Well, this is a post 9/11 military era where pre-emptive strike is the name of the game. The US report was issued based on intelligence reports from detained militants in the Afghan-Pakistan border region, as well as intercepted “electronic chatter” which hinted at planned European attacks. This month also marks the largest deployment of drone strikes against militant insurgents in Pakistan

Drone strikes are imperative for a policy of offshore balancing. Nevertheless, they are piecemeal, tactical efforts that do little to alter the Pakistani security establishment’s support for Islamist proxies as a hedge against India, Pakistan’s primary enemy. Indeed, massive aerial bombings did not win the war in Vietnam, and it’s not going to change the bigger picture in South Asia.

Perhaps the more disturbing aspect of the current debate over Afghanistan, drone strikes, et cetera, has been the inadequate examination of core assumptions. Mainly, that the neo-jihadists that threaten America are not held hostage to the outdated notion of "territory." Only we are. We seem to have forgotten that 9/11 was planned not only in Afghanistan, but also in Germany, Spain, and the United States. Even the radicalized youths suspected of plotting the recent Mumbai-style terror plot in Europe came from the same mosque in Hamburg where the 9/11 hijackers gathered.

The Mayor Mr. Paul Pisasale said he would like to see the implementation of that power when it came to enforce a uniform time zone on the eastern seaboard.

CNN Fired Famous Presenter Rick Sanchez

“Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well.“ CNN released this statement today.

Famous CNN presenter Rick Sanchez is no longer an anchor for the network. He was fired yesterday after calling fellow personality Jon Stewart a bigot on air.

The slur happened in the middle of a radio show where the anchor was discussing minorities. His topic was related to whether Jews should be considered part of the racial Minority.

Stewart is known for mocking and picking apart Sanchez on his own show. Ironically, Sanchez stated before his termination that Stewart is very powerful and can be a pinnacle in making or breaking peoples careers.

CNN anchor Rick Sanchez recently went on an anti-semit rant, essentially implying Jews control the media.

You know CNN execs were waiting for months for Sanchez to screw up like this so they'd have a reason to dump him other than his staggering incompetence.

Leo Apotheker, New CEO for Hewlett Packard Co

Hewlett-Packard Co has announced that Leo Apotheker as its new CEO, substituting Mark Hurd from the position.

Apotheker served at SAP for over 20 years, leading it to become a globally recognized brand. With a range of experience sectors in R&D and a background in technology platforms, he will become quite a resource for HP in its latest strategy towards growth in new areas.

HP already has its sights set high for the upcoming challenges, putting projections for next year's revenue higher than expected. During its analyst event this week, HP has been decidedly mum about a new CEO until now, wrapping up a chapter in the executive saga that spilled over into a fight for 3PAR's chunk of the cloud. HP can work towards refocusing its vision around mobile and cloud sectors.

Apotheker was only solely in charge of SAP for 7 months. (He was co-CEO for a year prior.) He was with SAP for 20 years.

This is a surprising move from HP, as most people believed HP would hire from within.

In the release announcing the hire, HP said Apotheker, "transformed R&D and technology platforms and expanded business models and customer segments," at SAP. Apotheker was in sales at SAP.

Apotheker's short stint as the boss at SAP did not draw rave reviews, but he may have inherited a bad situation. He took over just after the recession was at a low point.

Meg Whitman's Housekeeper's Story Behind

Nicky Diaz Santillan, Meg Whitman's housekeeper of 9 years, held a news conference with her lawyer, Gloria Allred, and claims Whitman had all the clues she was an undocumented worker but closed her eyes to it because she was cheap help ... $23 an hour.

Allred claims the housekeeper was "exploited, disrespected, humiliated and emotionally and financially abused" by Whitman.

Allred claims when the housekeeper was hired 9 years ago through an agency, Whitman never asked if she was in the U.S. legally. And, during her employment, Santillan told Whitman she couldn't travel to Mexico. And, Allred said, Whitman found out Santillan's Social Security number didn't match her name, but Whitman did nothing. Allred said it's the classic case of "don't ask, don't tell."

That all changed, Allred says, when Whitman launched her campaign for Governor, realizing having an illegal alien on board was a liability ... and fired her.

Santillan says Whitman treated her "like a piece of garbage" by letting her go.

Allred says Santillan is filing a claim with the Labor Commission for back wages and mileage.

Yesterday, Whitman said in the debate with Jerry Brown that employers should be held accountable for hiring undocumented workers.
