Hewlett-Packard Co has announced that Leo Apotheker as its new CEO, substituting Mark Hurd from the position.
Apotheker served at SAP for over 20 years, leading it to become a globally recognized brand. With a range of experience sectors in R&D and a background in technology platforms, he will become quite a resource for HP in its latest strategy towards growth in new areas.
HP already has its sights set high for the upcoming challenges, putting projections for next year's revenue higher than expected. During its analyst event this week, HP has been decidedly mum about a new CEO until now, wrapping up a chapter in the executive saga that spilled over into a fight for 3PAR's chunk of the cloud. HP can work towards refocusing its vision around mobile and cloud sectors.
Apotheker was only solely in charge of SAP for 7 months. (He was co-CEO for a year prior.) He was with SAP for 20 years.
This is a surprising move from HP, as most people believed HP would hire from within.
In the release announcing the hire, HP said Apotheker, "transformed R&D and technology platforms and expanded business models and customer segments," at SAP. Apotheker was in sales at SAP.
Apotheker's short stint as the boss at SAP did not draw rave reviews, but he may have inherited a bad situation. He took over just after the recession was at a low point.

Today is the anniversary of 50 year of The Flintstones Characters. The cartoon was the first animated series to air in prime time, and adults and children alike couldn’t wait for the show’s premiere. The series, which was created by Hanna Barbara, ran for six seasons. It was the longest running animated prime time show up until the Simpsons came along.
The Flintstones was made to mimic modern situations time, but set in the prehistoric era. The characters from The Flintstones was inspired even by the actors and actresses in real life. It is no secret that the show was modeled after the Honeymoon, with Fred being a character reminiscent of Jackie Gleason, Ralph Cramden. neighbor and friend of Fred Flintstone, Barney Rubble, was made to look like Art Carney’s character, Ed Norton. Wilma and Betty was in the personalities of wives on honeymoon.
The association was so apparent, that Jackie Gleason himself even threatened to sue Hanna Barbera. He supposedly decided not to go through with it, because he didn’t want to be known as “the guy who yanked Fred Flintstone off the air.”
Sarah Kustok's mother, Anita Kustok was found death with a gunshot wound in the head. Anita was shot in the head on Wednesday, and pronounced dead upon arrival at Palos Community Hospital. Orland Park Police Commander John Keating would not say where the shooting occurred, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Authorities in suburban Chicago, say that Anita Kustok, 58 year old, worked at Central Elementary School in Riverside. His son was northwest of the Big Ten title in 2000. His daughter, Sarah Kustok, is a reporter for Comcast SportsNet.
“She is a beautiful person with a beautiful heart,” said Dr. Janice Limperis, the school’s principal. “If anyone had a problem, she would find a positive way to look at it. We are devastated here. Her students are inconsolable. Its like losing a family member.”
Police are releasing few details about the case, including where the shooting occurred.
Shakira has been one of ScopiSat's favorite artists since her actually-quite-incredible album 'Donde Los Ladrones' entered our lives in 1998. Sure there have been a few ups ('Wherever, Whenever') and downs ('Hips Don't Lie' but we wish they would sometimes) but through everything she's done we've been at least tentatively on board.
Well the unnaturally blond one has launched another single, by the name of 'Loca.' We always thought "loca" meant "crazy," but the interwebs are under the impression that the phrase "es una loca" means "he's a real queen," or, that "loca" means, simply, "whore." So......do with that what you will.
'Loca' features Dizzee Rascal (alright) and was produced by Pitbull (horriffic) but actually turned out to be quite a tune. Check out the clip and let us know what you think:
Amy Fisher, 36, is now making a move into the porn industry. It is so strange, because in 2007, she had made a promise while appearing on the Maury show. What was the promise? “I’m not going to be a porn star!” is what she had promised Maury Povich. She was on the ‘Maury Show’ because Amy Fisher and her husband had made a porn and it had leaked. This video actually sold 200,000 copies. She was on the ‘Maury Show’ earlier this month to apologize to Povich about going back on her promise. She has decided that she wants to be a full-time porn star.
Three years ago a she released a sex tape with her husband Lou Bellera through Vivid to make a few bucks. At that time she swore to Maury Povich (we all know promises made to Maury Povich aren’t meant to be kept) that she would not pursue a career in porn.
She is in fact a married, 36 year old mother of 3 children. Amy Fisher however is not new to the spotlight. In her teen years she had actually spent a long time in the spotlight, for murder. After she spent seven years in prison, she was released and married her husband that is being very supportive of her new found career path.
Nicky Diaz Santillan, Meg Whitman's housekeeper of 9 years, held a news conference with her lawyer, Gloria Allred, and claims Whitman had all the clues she was an undocumented worker but closed her eyes to it because she was cheap help ... $23 an hour.
Allred claims the housekeeper was "exploited, disrespected, humiliated and emotionally and financially abused" by Whitman.
Allred claims when the housekeeper was hired 9 years ago through an agency, Whitman never asked if she was in the U.S. legally. And, during her employment, Santillan told Whitman she couldn't travel to Mexico. And, Allred said, Whitman found out Santillan's Social Security number didn't match her name, but Whitman did nothing. Allred said it's the classic case of "don't ask, don't tell."
That all changed, Allred says, when Whitman launched her campaign for Governor, realizing having an illegal alien on board was a liability ... and fired her.
Santillan says Whitman treated her "like a piece of garbage" by letting her go.
Allred says Santillan is filing a claim with the Labor Commission for back wages and mileage.
Yesterday, Whitman said in the debate with Jerry Brown that employers should be held accountable for hiring undocumented workers.
Dharun Ravi, of Plainsboro, and Molly Wei, of Princeton, both 18, each face two counts of invasion of privacy for secretly placing a camera in another 18-year-old student's dorm room and livestreaming that student's sexual encounter on the Internet.
Authorities say Ravi faces another two counts of invasion of privacy for allegedly trying to use the hidden camera to tape the same victim in a previous encounter two days before the second one hit the web.
Wei surrendered to campus cops in New Brunswick on Monday and was released on her own recognizance. Ravi turned himself in Tuesday and was released on $25,000 bail.
Asher Brown, Billy Lucas, and Seth Walsh were three teens this month that all killed themselves because of high school bullying. In each case, the victims allegedly alerted school officials who did nothing about it.
Last night, Anderson Cooper focused on an unusual case of bullying, Andrew Shirvell, an attorney with the Michigan Attorney General’s Office. Shirvell has set up a website to mock the student assembly president at the University of Michigan, Chris Armstrong.
And while news only knows, yet, of two instances directed at Tyler Clemente while at Rutgers, two was enough for the 18 year old. Tyler killed himself less than 24 hours after Ravi and Wei were released from custody.
It wasn't immediately clear where or how the live feed was broadcast, and investigators took strict precautions to protect the identity of the victim. But on his Twitter feed, Ravi vaguely refers to an internet instant messaging service that includes live video streams called iChat, according to NJ.com.
"Roommate asked for room again. Its happening again. People with iChat don't you dare video chat me from 930 to 12," NJ.com reports Ravi posted Sept. 22, the day after cops say he tried to livestream, for the second time, one of the victim's sexual encounters. The website reports Ravi's Twitter page, which apparently has been taken down, has 150 followers.
A lawyer for Ravi declined requests for comment. It wasn't immediately clear if Wei, a first year pharmacy student at Rutgers' Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, had an attorney.
Rutgers spokeswoman Sandra Lanman said the college is taking the situation seriously.
"The university takes these matters seriously and has policies to deal with student behavior," Lanman said in a statement.
According to New Jersey law, illegally collecting or viewing images showing sexual contact involving another individual without that individual's consent is a fourth-degree crime. It's a third-degree crime to transmit or distribute such images. The penalty for the latter offense carries a possible prison term of up to five years.
Kylie took over Radio One's Live Lounge - an acoustic live show on, well, Radio One - yesterday, and while some artists crash and burn under the pressure of having to ACTUALLY SING LIVE, K-Mo seemed absolutely in her element. There's a reason she is Princess of Everything Everywhere, and this is it. Because we are so awesome, we've decided to give you some links to download high quality radio rips of the three songs she performed - brand new single 'Get Outta My Way,' a cover of Hurts' 'Wonderful Life,' and an absolutely epic rendition of her signature hit 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head.'
Hi everyone, Since it's the end of September i would like to do my September favourites :)
88 Colour Palette:
This is an awesome palette that has every single colour you need in it..in various shades! It has been awesome to be able to only have to take out this one item to achieve my whole eye look. Perfect for rainbow eyes.
88 Neutral Palette:
Again, this is a palette which i love for it's convenience and now i am pretty sure i have every single neutral eyeshadow i will ever need!
Chanel Powder Blush in "Pink Explosion":
This is such a beautiful colour, very pigmented and blends really easily into your cheek bones. It gives such a healthy rosey glow!!
Chanel Soleil De Tan in "Terre Ambre":
It's not suprise this is in this months favourites again. It is such a good contour! Minimal shimmer and a very natural effect. Very good quality and cute packaging.
MAC Superslick Liquid Eye Liner:
This is a very recent purhase actually as it came out with the MAC Fabulous Felines collection. It has made my life so much easier and is SOO much quicker using this product than any other pot or stick eyeliners i have ever used for the top lash line. 6 second drying time as well which is awesome.
MAC Eye Kohl in "Violet Underground":
I have never been really big into coloured eyeliners but purple suposedly brings out green eyes. I have decided to call my eyes green despite some people thinking they are blue..they look more green than blue to me. So to play up the green in my eyes and in hopes intesifying the colour..purple eyeliner to the inner corners of the eyes with smokey looks or on the bottom lash line with a neutral eye achieve this aim.
MAC lipstick in "Saint Germain":
This is an amplified lipstick which i have never been into but this colour is AMAZING. Go up to the MAC counter and look at the lipstick stand and i assure you that this colour will stand out and catch your eye. it is a beautiful barbie pink. Similar to the MAC "Viva Glam GaGa" lipstick which came out earlier this year.
As you can see, both lipsticks are quite similar however Viva Glam GaGa seems a bit more peachy toned whereas Saint Germain is a little more cool tones with more glitter.
Next is a shower cap which i was in desperate need of until recently! This one is called "Don't Screw the Do" and is by Peter Alexander which is a company i have done modelling for in the past. I adore this brand as the concepts and look of all of his items are so gorgeous and well thought out.
The actual shower cap itself is very well made and you can identify the pattern in which is comes by the packaging. There are 3 patterns you are able to choose from and each of them all have their own cute name. You can purchase these from any Peter Alexander store or online for $25 (not including shipping).
FTC: Yes, i am sponsered by Peter Alexander but these are my honest opinions on the company.
Batiste Dry Shampoo:
MY SAVIOUR! We all know those days when we are in between the hair washing stage and we are beginning to look a little bit oily but have no time to spare for a shower. Just spray a bit of this into your roots and when you brush it through, it absorbs a lot of the oil and makes your hair look fresher.
The TV Show that i just finsihed watching was "Kendra" and i just finished the first season this morning. So now i am on the hunt for another TV Series to buy..i am thinking possibly Keeping Up With The Kardashians or Gossip Girl. Maybe even restarting the One Tree Hill series, that could be fun :)
I have always admired Madiba, and im always so close to tears whenever i watch him on TV. Many have seen him as a hero with a few critics that have come and gone. My dream is to meet him someday. And someday i shall.
Promoting Peace with Education in Afghanistan and Pakistan
In his latest book, Greg Mortenson hosts the reader as a valuable and welcomed traveling companion as he retraces his steps through the most remote areas of Pakistan's Northwest Frontier areas and the formidable terrain of Afghanistan holding a mirror to our humanity. Mortenson introduces us to his trusted companions t...urned employees of Central Asia Institute, the so-called "Dirty Dozen", who truly embody the virtues of goodwill and perseverance in the name of literacy and, of course, God.
In short, Greg Mortenson's work makes Anthony Bordain's exotic travel look like a visit to Epcot Center.
Mortenson's committment to cross-cultural understanding beyond the borders of Pakistan and Afghanistan is rivaled only by his determination to educate the under-served girls in the most remote areas of these countries. Stones Into Schools is a suspenseful, heart-breaking as it is heart-warming, true account of a life well lived and a people well-served. Mortenson is an honor to the human race and diplomat for world peace. About now, Greg Mortenson would do well to take his own advice and sit for a month under a walnut tree to recuperate.
Today's raucous revolt against Washington and Wall Street is a classic populist uprising. In Mad As Hell, two respected political pollsters show what it means for the future of American politics.
The riotous tea parties and angry town hall meetings of last summer seemingly took everyone by surprise. They shouldn’t have: populist movements have always arisen in times of economic hardship and uncertainty. In Mad As Hell, pollsters Scott Rasmussen and Doug Schoen use extensive and original research to explore the mind and heart of the populist uprising that has suddenly thrown American politics into turmoil.
In the past, populist movements have taken root either on the right or on the left. Today’s populist revolt is unusually broad and has two wings: a left wing that wants universal health care and redistributive economic policies, and a right wing that wants to reduce the power of government to interfere in our lives. Both are hostile to the Washington political class, Wall Street, and the mainstream media—all of which they consider out of touch with the concerns of “real” Americans. The key difference is that left populists are effectively represented by Barack Obama and congressional Democrats who are pursuing their agenda, while right populists are chiefly represented by Fox News and Rush Limbaugh— an angrier and potentially more powerful political force.
So-called professionals in politics, business, and media have completely failed to comprehend the new populism and have dismissed it as marginal and extreme. The authors explore the broad-based nature of the new populist movement and explain how it is reshaping American politics—whether politicians and elite journalists like it or not.
The Tea Party movement is not a flash in the pan,as many have assumed. Nor is it a movement of racist rednecks and ignorant boobs, as its detractors have crudely suggested. To the contrary, it is an authentic grassroots movement of concerned American citizens demanding to be heard by an out-of-touch political establishment. Their concerns are real and their issues are legitimate, the authors maintain; moreover, the new populism is here to stay, and it has already changed our politics for the better.
In Mad As Hell, Rasmussen and Schoen have produced an authoritative guide to the new populism, featuring a combination of proprietary polling data, political analysis, results from online focus groups, and interviews with on-the-ground players. It is must-reading for anyone interested in American electoral politics for the remainder of the decade.
Who is he?: President of Zimbabwe since 1980, he attained his job after leading bloody guerrilla warfare against the white colonial rulers of what was then Rhodesia. Birthdate: Feb. 21, 1924, near Kutama, northeast of Salisbury (now Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe), in what was then Rhodesia. Mugabe quipped in 2005 that he would remain president until he was "a century old." Personal life: Mugabe was married to Ghanian national Sally Hayfron, a teacher and political activist, in 1961. They had one son, Nhamodzenyika, who died during childhood. She died of kidney failure in 1992. In 1996, Mugabe married his onetime secretary, Grace Marufu, who is more than four decades younger than Mugabe, and with whom he had two children while his wife Sally's health was failing. Mugabe and Grace have three children: Bona, Robert Peter Jr., and Bellarmine Chatunga. Political affiliation: Mugabe leads the Zimbabwe African National Union – Patriotic Front, a socialist party founded in 1987. Mugabe and his party are also heavily nationalist with left-wing ideology, favoring land seizures from white Zimbabweans while claiming that doing so counters the nation's imperialist past. Career: Mugabe holds seven degrees from South Africa's Fort Hare University. In 1963 he was secretary general of the Maoist Zimbabwe African National Union. In 1964, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison for "subversive speech" against the Rhodesian government. Once released, he fled to Mozambique to launch a guerrilla war for independence. He returned to Rhodesia 1979 and became prime minister in 1980; the next month, the newly independent country was renamed Zimbabwe. Mugabe assumed the presidency in 1987, with the prime minister role being abolished. Under his rule, annual inflation has soared to 100,000%. Future: Mugabe has faced probably the strongest, most organized opposition in the Movement for Democratic Change. He accuses the MDC of being Western-backed, using this as an excuse to persecute MDC members and order arbitrary arrest of and violence against supporters. Instead of striking terror into the citizenry, this could further galvanize opposition against his iron-fisted rule. Action from neighboring South Africa, deluged by Zimbabwean refugees, or world bodies could also pressure Mugabe, who relies on the "war veterans" militia to help him keep his grip on power. Quote: "Our party must continue to strike fear in the heart of the white man, our real enemy!" -- Mugabe in the Irish Times, Dec. 15, 2000
Voters in Venezuela have stopped President Hugo Chavez from obtaining the two-thirds majority the Socialist leader said he needed in the National Assembly to effortlessly pass what he calls critical reforms.Chavez's United Socialist Party on Sunday won at least 94 of 165 seats, while his most ardent foes took 60. The rest of the votes had either not been determined or went to another small party.
Several of Chavez's most determined adversaries, some of whom had pushed for a boycott of the last congressional elections in 2005, said the results showed that Venezuelans opposed the president's plans to radicalize his self-styled revolution.
"Here it is very clear: Venezuela said no to Cuban-style communism, Venezuela said yes to the path of democracy," she said after the results were released. "We now have the legitimacy of the citizen vote. We are the representatives of the people."
Jamiroquai are the kind of post-disco-house-party band that we always wished would come to our parties but never did because they found ACTUAL SUCCESS. As a band they have straddled the fine line between poppy and credible for a number of years, and every so often they deliver a break-through hit that sets the charts afire.
This is also the band that gave us one of the defining music videos of a generation - 'Virtual Insanity,' with its ever-shifting walls and weird blood-floor for NO REASON - so its fair to say they have a high standard to live up to with new single 'White Knuckle Ride.' Unfortunately, ScopiSubjects, they kind of dropped the ball on this one. Sure, it's not terrible, but it's essentially some high-def video of a helicopter flying around the desert, halfheartedly chasing a car that is offroading even though it is clearly not designed to do so. Nothing really happens, but the song itself is rather nice.

Not all remarkable women receive the standing ovations that they deserve. Today's blog is about a remarkable Self-Empowered Woman who embodied honor, bravery and fortitude, but died penniless and alone.
Eileen Nearnewas 89 years old when she died in the English seaside village of Torquay. Because she had lived alone for many years, and had few friends, and there was no one to pay for funeral expenses after her body was found. Council officials, while in the process of looking through her things in an effort to find a relative, discovered that she wasn't just another little old lady who had lived--and died--alone.
The book and movie "Charlotte Gray" (the film starred Cate Blanchett) was rumored to be based on Nearne's life, and the London Times posthumously referred to her as a real-life Eleanor Rigby, the spinster who died alone in the Beatles' song.
In fact, when she was 24 years old Eileen Nearne had had a remarkable career as a young spy during World War II. She was dropped behind enemy lines near Chateauroux in occupied France, and was assigned to transmit wireless radio messages to London from Paris in order to help the Allies keep track of Nazi activities. During her five months in Paris she sent 105 messages--including one that told the British that the Germans had hidden 2,000 rockets in a stone quarry located north of Paris.
Three times during her career as a young spy, Nearne was captured by the Gestapo. Her two other female British contacts were executed, and the Nazis used that era's form of waterboarding--holding Nearne underwater in a bathtub full of near-freezing water--but she never admitted her involvement with the British. She was sent to Ravensbruck and Markleberg prison camps after being arrested by the SS (the Schutzstaffel), but eventually convinced the Nazis that "Mademoiselle du Tort" was simply a shop girl who knew nothing about military matters.
The woman whom the British War Office referred to as "Agent Rose" walked to Leipzig, where a local priest let her hide in the belfry of his church. When she saw white flags being flown on April 15, 1945 she went to greet the liberating Americans.
Nearne returned to the UK, where her mental state remained (understandably) precarious; her older sister took care of her until Jacqueline accepted a job offer at the United Nations. From that time on, Nearne was essentially a woman who retreated into herself.
When the War was over she admitted that what kept her going was "The will to live. Will power. That's the most important. You should not let yourself go. It seemed that the end would never come, but I have always believed in destiny and I had a hope."
In the picture at the top of the page, she is attending a memorial service at Ravensbruck where she had once been a prisoner. The medal on the left is the CroixdeGuerre (from the French government) and the one on the right is the MBE (from the British government.
She received a pension from the British government until she travelled to Paris to stay with friends, at which time her stipend was terminated. The British population was justifiably irate that a true war hero had been forced to live in poverty. She was buried three weeks after her body was found, and her funeral expenses were ultimately paid by the Royal British Legion, whose motto is "Lest We Forget."
We're just going to come out and say it. We hate Glee. Not the idea, no, and we actually loved the first couple episodes. It was biting, satirical and - most importantly - it told a compelling story. Since then, however, it's devolved into a messy hour long commercial for the music it churns out. At this point it's pretty clear that the "men upstairs" just decide what super great songs they want to rape, and then shoehorn the plot around them while a bunch of 32 year-olds dance around pretending they are promiscuous teenagers with biologically autotuned voiceboxes.
That said, a Britney episode is coming up and that is AMAZING. Why, you ask? Because it is BRITNEY.
Here's a preview of what tracks we can expect to hear:
