The New Pixie Lott video is...interesting - watch now!

If this week's Ugly Betty taught us anything, it's that blogs are for ranting.  Because we live our lives by the Word Of Betty, we at ScopiSat have this to say:  Pixie Lott is a load of damp shit.  She started out her big-time career with 'Mama Do,' an Amy Winehouse wannabe, followed it up with some other forgettable song, and now is chucking out this masterpiece of mediocrity.  Yet somehow she is a HUGE STAR, selling bucketloads of albums and singles, and basically ruining any remaining faith we had in the record buying public.  We're not fans.  She's crap.  We're sure she's a lovely person but whoever her A&R person is should be dragged through the streets to Robbie Williams' house and then forced to watch him relive his drug addled X-Factor performance OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN until they expire from the ABSOLUTE CRINGEY-NESS of the whole thing and then have their body dragged through the streets AGAIN as an example of what happens to 'those kind of people.'  Anyhow, here's Pixie's new video.  Enjoy.

Sabrina Washington says 'OMG' in her new video - watch now!

The other day we posted the new Sabrina Washington track 'OMG,' along with a sort - of review.

Well now we are treated to a series of moving images carefully choreographed to match the rhythm and subject matter of the song.  The kids are calling it a 'music video.'

The clip is a bit 'Gaga-lite' with some Ke$ha thrown in, but it looks glossy and definitely does the trick.  What do you guys think?

The single is out March 22, with an album this summer

New Young Pony Club give us some 'Chaos' in new video - watch now

New Young Pony Club, whose 'Ice Cream' was inescapable in both computer and car commercials for the last couple years, are back with a new single and video.

It's a by-the-numbers post-indie affair, but it does the trick, and is just the thing to blast out of your vintage Walkman as you walk down the street in Williamsburg if you're trying to 'fit in.'

We're guessing this won't beat the UK peak of 'Ice Cream,' which at number 40 was their biggest hit.  But on March 1st we can find out...

HOW TO: PENCIL SKIRTS!

Hey everyone,
Recently i have been wearing quite a lot of pencil skirts. They are a versatile fashion staple and each girl should have at least one. There is something about them that is sassy, classy and feminine that i love. Wearing a pencil skirt has the power to make you look more mature and serious whilst still looking fashionable. In this post i will assist you in how to wear pencil skirts and the many variations.

WHAT TO KEEP IN MIND
LENGTH: The length of a pencil skirt, suspecting that it stars from the skinniest part of your waist, should reach just above you knees or at knee length. This makes the skirt suitable for work or formal situations but short enough to show some leg and compliment your figure.

TOP: With pencil skirts you can tuck in your top or leave it out. Most find that tucking it in is more complimenting and excentuates the thin part of your waist. tops with ruffle detailing are super classy with pencil skirts as they dangle over the waitline. Sequin or beading detail is also very cute and adds a little something.

COLOUR: These days there are many colours to choose from. if it is a work situation or formal occassion then i wouldnt bust out in the bright purples just yet. Stick to the plain black, navy or grey. I would say white but white pencil skirts tend not to be very complimenting so you will not find a huge range of such clothing.
ACCESSORIES: Usually if you have a detailed or ruffled top then you won't need a necklace, even if it is a plain tank top i would leave the necklace. Focus on charm bracelets, bangles and cute earrings. Colours that match your top and if you are wearing a belt will look amazing if applied to your acessories.

BELTS: Some skirt come with built in belts already but if not then there are many to choose from. There are skinny belts which are very simple and if you match the belt with your colour shirt then it will break up the black and colour coordinate. There are also stretch belts which come in a one-size-fits-all type thing and you can do the same with the colour matching your top thing. The last kind of belt is a black one with an attachment to it , meaning a brooch or something, which really brightens up your outfit and adds a little glam.

TEXTURE: There are many choices such as cotton, lycra, leather, knit and much more. But i would keep the lycra and leather pencil skirts for a fancy dress party or exotic event. The basic pencil skirt is made of cotton as it is soft, comfortable and often comes in stretchy. The knitted kinds are more couture than anything so expect to pay big bucks for high brands if you like the knitted look.

FOOTWEAR: A pair of heels are killer with this outfit. Black pumps are a no-brainer but if you are feeling adventurous then go with a really bright heel which will complete the outfit. Flats are fine also, try cute flats to the same description as the heels mentioned above.

WORKPLACE FASHION
In the workplace you want to look serious but stylish, fashionable but feminine and professional but powerful.

Keep the skirts black, the tops white or neutral and you will be all of the above. Spice things up with your choice in belts and accessories. Don't forget that by adding a pair of killer heels it will top the outfit.

However, if you ever do feel like branching out and taking a risk then try a different coloured top to coordinate your shoes, belt and accessories to.

Remember that work clothes can be fun and exciting to. Make sure you are excited in what you are wearing and if you aren't then it will show on your face. So pick comfortable work clothes that your happy with and are excited to wear.

Sabrina Washington says 'OMG' and it is quite above average - listen now (full track)

Once a part of trio Mis-teeq, along with Alesha Dixon, Sabrina Washington is finally ready to strike out on her own.  The group broke up back in 05, and since then there have been various rumblings about Ms. Washington's solo career.

Like now-successful-solo-artist-bandmate Alesha, Sabrina was on a reality show - 'I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here' - and her label decided it was time to unleash 'OMG' on the world.   It's a pretty unoffensive R&B tune, and sounds more like what Mis-teeq would be doing today than anything Alesha has done.

47: The Self-Empowered Woman: Florence Nightingale

Dear Followers,

Today I'd like to share the story of a most unlikely Self-Empowered Woman. Florence Nightingale was born on May 12, 1820 (in Florence, Italy), and died in her sleep on August 13, 1910 in London. During her lifetime she initiated the role of women as nurses, and profoundly improved conditions for soldiers in the UK and abroad.

Unlike most Self-Empowered Women, Florence Nightingale's father played both a supportive and a dependable role in her life. As an adult Nightingale was lucky enough to be the recipient of an annual income from her father of £500 a year, which would be about $50,000 in today's currency. And when she was younger, she was lucky enough to have a father who--unlike most parents of that era--believed that women should be educated. He personally taught her Italian, Greek, Philosophy, History, Writing and Mathematics. The latter would be particularly helpful to her when, as a health advocate, she became one of the first people to present her arguments using visual presentations, statistical graphics and pie charts.

In other ways, however, Nightingale possessed her fair share of SEW traits. Her decision, in 1845, to enter nursing incurred the intense anger and disapproval of her family, particularly her mother (17: Dreaming Your Own Dream).

And her love life appears to have been both complicated and chaste. She was courted by Richard Monckton Milnes, the first Baron Houghton, Sidney Herbert (who was married, but became a lifelong friend and mentor), and Benjamin Jowett (15: Forget About Prince Charming).

Both in England in 1837, and while in Egypt in 1850, she confessed to feeling "called to God," and watching the deaconesses and Pastor Theodor Fliedner, who worked for the sick and deprived for Kaiserswerth-am-Rhein she felt that the experience was "a turning point in her life" (3: Befief in the Unbelievable).

Thanks to Nightingale (known as "The Lady With the Lamp" because she visited and cared for the injured soldiers at night) the death rates for the wounded during the Crimean War dropped from 40% to 2%, primarily because of her impact on improved sanitation and better living conditions.

Nightingale endured a nervous breakdown and was often bedridden and suffered from severe depression (12: Hard Times). And even though she paved the way for women everywhere to have more opportunities, she had little patience for those who adhered to the traditional, restrictive female roles (5: Life is Not a Popularity Contest).

In addition to her work in the field of health, Nightingale was a prolific author, and her honors, statues, and namesake hospitals serve as reminders of the profound contributions she made during her lifetime. The annual International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world on May 12, her birthday.

Looking forward to your comments...
